Hi All,
It looks like we will be able to vote from tommorow. I think the first
thing that should go on a vote is the famous CTRL+A question. Let me
remind you of the various options that were discussed:
Original Proposal
-----------------
CTRL+A Select All
Shift+CTRL+A Deselect
This is consistent with both the German standard and the Atari style
guide. It is also an accepted standard on other platforms and is now a
well established standard on Atari software. The Shift+CTRL+A option
merely adds an extra feature to this.
Any change from this will mean that the majority of ST programs will have
to be modified to comply. I also doubt that we will be taken seriously by
other developers if we change such an established standard.
Optional Proposal
-----------------
The case has been made for Select All being a 'dangerous' operation in
text processors that use a big cursor system. Under such a system
selecting CTRL+A by mistake and typing something can potentially delete
the whole document. Try Atari Works for a demo of this. The option that
was suggested was:
CTRL+A Deselect
Shift+CTRL+A Select All
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I will post details on how to vote on this. Once this has been decided I
will ammend the main proposal accordingly so we can vote on that.
Bye,
Ofir ogal@cix.compulink.co.uk
