- Hi All,
-
- It looks like we will be able to vote from tommorow. I think the first
- thing that should go on a vote is the famous CTRL+A question. Let me
- remind you of the various options that were discussed:
-
- Original Proposal
- -----------------
-
- CTRL+A Select All
- Shift+CTRL+A Deselect
-
- This is consistent with both the German standard and the Atari style
- guide. It is also an accepted standard on other platforms and is now a
- well established standard on Atari software. The Shift+CTRL+A option
- merely adds an extra feature to this.
- Any change from this will mean that the majority of ST programs will have
- to be modified to comply. I also doubt that we will be taken seriously by
- other developers if we change such an established standard.
-
- Optional Proposal
- -----------------
-
- The case has been made for Select All being a 'dangerous' operation in
- text processors that use a big cursor system. Under such a system
- selecting CTRL+A by mistake and typing something can potentially delete
- the whole document. Try Atari Works for a demo of this. The option that
- was suggested was:
-
- CTRL+A Deselect
- Shift+CTRL+A Select All
-
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- I will post details on how to vote on this. Once this has been decided I
- will ammend the main proposal accordingly so we can vote on that.
-
- Bye,
-
